It's done… Done for ever. Not that any of the alternatives proposed were ideal. Not that they did not represent pure compromises and not a good solution. But anything, almost anything appeared better than this blanket reservation. The last hope of progressive people was on the prime minister. Those who had celebrated the fact that we have a learned, progressive, pragmatic economist at the helm of affairs this time have been let down – with this. Yes, yes – I know it is yet to go through parliament, but are you really waiting for that??!! Any insistence of providing numbers blatantly ignored, all the talks of finding middle path done away with – no hopes left from our representatives. First the office of Profit issue (which gave us a unique example of how they can all unite in the time of a crisis [personal for them all] ) and now this!! Yes – we have always known that our system had its pit falls. That not everything is done the right way and still it was functional. With this, I suspect even that.
The only thing I (and probably many others) had hopes on was that our prime minister will do something, something so that something so disgusting does not get through as it is. Despite all these talks about him having no real power and all, I had put trust on his progressive views and abilities. But no – pointless.
All right, I can still understand that prime minister is not supreme in this system called democracy!! Fine, you were bound by the system. But you know what! You should at least save your personal dignity, your own conscience. You have achieved a lot in your life. There is no reason for you to stick to a lame chair called "Prime Minister" there. Resign, resign, resign. At least give us some hopes that there was one person with strong morale in the team on which the running of our country rests. Even if morale of one person could not save the system from acting pathetically, there was something. Escapism, did you say? It'd be less of a escapism than what you are doing now. And who knows – this might just work. This might just give the push in the right direction. Go, resign Dr. Singh!!
