Banaras: Go watch it!!

I feel really sorry for you, if you get swayed only by the headlines and act accordingly. I can see that it is for people like you that media persons work so hard on making strong and sensational headlines😀

Okay, so the point is this. There are certain movies which are intended to be comic, and they make you laugh. Those are the good ones. There are certain movies which are intended to be comic, but fail to make you laugh. Those are the bad ones. There are certain movies which are supposed to be serious, and they convey their point. Those are the good ones. There are certain movies which are supposed to be serious, but turn out to be superficial or off the track. Those are the bad ones. There are certain movies that are supposed to be profound and they are indeed so. May not be understood by the masses, but a certain intellectual section appreciates them. Those are the good ones. There are certain movies that are supposed to be profound, but they fail to live upto the expectations and drift into the cliches. Those bore you and those are the bad ones. Then there are movies, which are supposed to be profound and the only thing you can do is to laugh through the three hours. Those are called “Banaras”…

Got the point? No? Go watch Banaras. You will find this piece more comprehensible. Gee, are these the footpaths of B’lore or the unexpectedly hot weather that I have suddenly become the critic of all the movies I am seeing😀

  1. You have been writing nothing but film reviews of late. I haven’t watched any of these films so I can’t comment anything on your reviews.

“There are certain movies that are supposed to be profound and they are indeed so. May not be understood by the masses, but a certain intellectual section appreciates them.”

You have voiced my opinion on that.🙂

I hope to make such films one day. Doesn’t really matter whether they become a hit or a flop. I wouldn’t mind even if they target only the ‘intellectual audience’ who knwo how to appreciate good cinema in the real sense. I hope to come out with one before the year ends.

By the way, Banglore isn’t such a bad place to live in.😀

  2. Hi jaya,
So now its time for banaras! No problem,my point is,you can relish only those things which you feel, what you have gone through personally, somewhere, sometime, for someone. If you see those kind of things for 120min, i bet you you will never feel uncanny!

But then is it possible? No movies are coming for unlimited reasons you cant pick one…can you? May for fun may b for money may b for marketing , some people come up with an idea of making a movie, b coz i m feeling free for laast one year.Yes, jaya have you heard of one movie..PRAN JAYE PAR SHAAN NA JAYE… produced by sanjay..jha!

The beauty of a movie is to give bring inculcate every one so when we leave theatre we never say…kya sara hua movie tha..I totally agree with your words. Wish to unravel more..but ..not fair sans seeing!I will hope that this time..i wont get vexed!

    Take care

    Anupam

  3. I think, since the movie Banaras is not your subject. You shouldnt comment about it at all.
If it was Urmila is mini’s and stuff you would have appreciated.
But because it deals with something more then life you dont get it. Maybe because some of us are not to understand the more mystical stuff. I feel sorry for you..

  4. Dear All,

with all due respect. Think about the more underlying thoughts. Today the world is moving towards spirituality thats why he have Sri Sri Ravishankar, etc. But everyone doesnt seem to understand that. They want to mock the movie.

I think it takes more then laughing and cheap understanding to get the depth of the movie.
Look at Urmila she has done beautifully. Ashmit is a change and a pleasant change. Naseeruddin shah he looks like a God.
Dimple and Raj babbar wat can I say, amazing actors.
Each character is so well defined, unshakeable script no flaws, now thats what I call a movie.

Come on honestly how many film makers really went out of their especially one coming from non-filmi to write on such a subject.

  5. I loved the Movie, Banaras, like some of other freinds here say. Its worth a watch, beautifuly crafted.

Its seems like someone put their soul to make this movie.

It does help us rise to an intellect.

To me it was an eye opener.

Go watch it, it is out of this world.

  6. All right Shamini a.k.a. Nikisha a.k.a. Tina. Got your point. You really liked the movie. Your comment(s) show a different point of view. But why do you have to use different names and comment thrice in a row?

For the information of the other readers, all the three comments above have been made by the same person. They are from the same IP. In two of them, the commentor has used the same e-mail id. In the third the e-mail id is different, but has the same name.

Whatever be the reason behind doing so!! There is no poll going on here that you have to match the numbers somehow or the other.

  7. It sounds like you’re creating problems yourself by trying to solve this issue instead of looking at why their is a problem in the first place
