Replacement for pets?

Humanoid Robot for personal use

Am no reader of Science Fictions, but I guess they are full of the stories exploring the possibilities of machine taking over humans. Has the process started was the first question that came to my mind on reading above? 🙂

Of course, I won’t be very cynical and leave the possibility aside for the time being. In a country like India, for quite some time now, common people have made fun of the elites of the society for their love of pets (this love is now no longer a strict privilege of elites, but somehow the importance of pets in the life of some people has been a matter of ridicule for long!). This has been seen as an “whims of those with lots of money, but no love of/for humans”. Now, pets are at least living beings. Where would something like a humanoid robot positioned as a “companion” take us? “Whims of those with lots of money, but no love of for living beings?”

No moral stands being taken! 🙂 Just wondering. At a general level, I am not skeptical about technological advances. But it is still a good idea to keep an eye on what all could happen…
